Mommyhood

I wanted to share this post from my previous blog, around March of 2013....

"Learning to be a mommy"

With his sweet but persistent 6 month sounds,Sawyer convinced me that it would be a good idea to get up and go downstairs, rather than lay around all morning in bed. And, I mean, the kid had a point, it was nearly 7am. A little while later, after his morning milky, he calmed down a bit. Sawyer was playing in his jumper and I was stealing a precious few minutes to peruse Facebook--and then, suddenly he started getting really fussy. I went over to him and picked him up, and the now familiar smell of "I just started solid foods" crept into my nostrils. I took him upstairs to get him changed, but as i took his little baby pants off i realized that this was no ordinary diaper session. Sawyer had managed to poop completely out and to the left of his diaper, his cute, sesame themed, extra dry pampers diaper, and had sticky blueberry/boobie milk colada squished all the way up into his armpit. Eww.

As a mother you love your child unconditionally, but with this new change in bowel movements, i often find myself yearning for the good old days of odorless, cutesy, "can you believe our little man" poops. You know, the poops of last month. Anyway, I quickly ascertained that this was not going to be a job completed by wipeys. Without thinking, I barged into the bathroom and started the shower. I stripped Sawyer down and held him under the water. I was overjoyed as masses of the sticky stuff began to wash off his body. Unable to reach all of his nooks and crannies, i stepped into the shower with him, so that I could hose this kid down from every angle. More of the goo twisted and turned its way down the drain, but as I watched it, something seemed off to me.It was then that I realized I had stepped into the shower fully clothed. Sawyer twisted around, slick and soapy, and gave my a huge toothless grin. I smiled back, partly because I was glad he was clean again, and partly because I realized that this is completely normal for me now. Fully clothed in the shower and washing poop down the drain. So how did you start your Saturday?
